George Washington Statue
Washington Square


Washington Square is the cityıs first public park known until the 1880ıs as City Hall Park for the City hall which sits in the Southwest corner. In the foreground stands a brand new statue of George Washington, for whom the park was renamed in 1881, and in the background is the Washington Light Infantry monument erected in July of 1891 commemorating the Civil War service of one of Charlestonıs most prestigious militia companies.
